Who can see your TikTok reposts?

Short answer: your followers, and anyone who opens your profile. Reposts are a public feature. There is no “repost privately” option, and unlike liked videos, there is no toggle that hides the list while keeping the account public.

The longer answer is worth reading, because the visibility works in two separate places and most people only know about one of them.

Reposts are visible in two different places

1. In your followers’ For You feeds

This is the main event and the part people underestimate. When you repost, that video becomes eligible for delivery to accounts that follow you, presented with a label attributing the recommendation to your username.

You have no control over the timing. A follower can be shown something you reposted months ago, in a scrolling session you will never know about. There is no per-repost reach setting and no way to see who was served it.

2. In the Reposts tab on your profile

Your profile carries a Reposts tab — the loop-arrow icon sitting alongside your posts. It holds everything you have reposted, newest first. On a public account, anyone who taps through to your profile can open it: followers, people who found you in search, someone a friend sent your handle to.

What TikTok’s privacy settings do cover

TikTok’s privacy menu has fine-grained controls for several kinds of activity. Reposts are not one of them. Concretely:

• Liked videos — there is a dedicated setting to restrict who can see the list. Reposts have no equivalent.
• Favorites — a private bookmark folder for you, not a public collection.
• Following list — can be restricted.
• Reposts — no per-feature control. They follow the visibility of the account as a whole.

So the only account-level lever is switching to a private account, which restricts your profile — reposts tab included — to followers you have approved. That is a large change to make for one feature, and it does not retroactively pull reposts out of feeds they have already reached.

What someone actually sees

Put yourself on the other side of it. A person who follows you sees:

• The video itself, full-screen, exactly as the creator posted it.
• An attribution line naming you as the account that reposted it.
• The creator’s handle, caption, sound and all the usual controls.

What they do not see is any commentary from you. A repost carries no caption of your own, which is precisely why old ones age badly: the video is presented in your name with no context, no “this was a joke”, no timestamp that reads as historical.

Edge cases worth knowing

• If the creator deletes the video, it disappears from your Reposts tab too. You cannot repost something that no longer exists.
• If the creator goes private or blocks you, the repost stops being viewable by others even though your action remains.
• Switching your account to private restricts who can reach the Reposts tab from that point on.
• Deleting your account removes the reposts along with everything else — a solution, technically, but not a proportionate one.

How to stop your reposts being visible

There is one method that is complete and permanent, and it is simply removing the reposts. Open a video, tap the share arrow, tap Remove repost. It leaves your tab immediately and stops being distributed.
